january recap

A Cozy Start to the Year

January has come and gone, and I can't help but reflect on how this first month of the year unfolded.

Uncertain new year

As always, New Year’s Eve carried its usual weight of expectations. The pressure to celebrate extravagantly, to be surrounded by crowds of people, and to create a “perfect” night is something that has always felt a bit overwhelming to me. While I love looking back on the past year with gratitude, there is also a sense of melancholy—saying goodbye to a year filled with memories and stepping into the unknown of a new one. That uncertainty can be intimidating.

my cozy new years eve

This year, however, I embraced a different approach. I spent New Year’s Eve in the best way possible—cozied up with my loved ones. No big parties, no elaborate plans, just pure comfort. We ordered pizza at night, watched TV, and counted down as the clock struck midnight. And that was it. No pressure, no stress—just a peaceful and fulfilling transition into 2025. Afterward, I slipped into bed feeling content and truly happy.

The first morning of the year welcomed me with a fresh coffee in hand, crisp air filling my lungs, and a serene view of a foggy lake. It felt like the perfect way to embrace a fresh start—calm, slow, and intentional.

new year reset

Back home, I jumped into my New Year reset tasks. Having these essential to-dos outlined helped me focus on what needed to be done, making the transition into the year smoother. It also set a great foundation for our upcoming move in spring/summer. A win-win situation!

staying active

Besides work and daily life, I prioritized movement and being active. I took winter walks whenever I had the time, fully embracing the cold and moody charm of Northern Germany. Spinning classes also became part of my routine, keeping me energized during the darker months.

interior design for the house

Another major focus was planning the interior design of our new home—a task that requires countless decisions but is also incredibly exciting. We’ve already chosen the staircase design, wooden flooring, and bathroom tiles. Slowly but surely, everything is coming together, and I can’t wait to see it all take shape.

enjoy the small moments

Amidst all the planning and tasks, I tried to soak up the essence of January—acknowledging its slowness, embracing its peaceful moments, and allowing myself to ease into the year rather than rush through it. And just like that, January flew by, and now February is here. I’m looking forward to what this month has in store—some fun plans while patiently awaiting March, my birthday month, and the first glimpses of spring.

If your year didn’t start the way you hoped, know that you are not alone. Life ebbs and flows, and tough moments don’t last forever. Here’s to moving forward with grace, hope, and the belief that better days always come.

Wishing you a wonderful February!

Waves of love, always. Ines
