part 5 of my new year reset
Organizing My Cosmetics and Embracing Progress Over Perfection
Yesterday, I finally found the time to cross another task off my New Year Reset list—organizing my cosmetics. It’s one of those things that feels small but makes a huge difference in your daily routine. Not gonna lie, my motivation was much higher at the beginning of January. But as the month winds down, I’ve had to remind myself of the tasks still waiting on my agenda. Seeing January almost slip away gave me the push I needed to get this one done. And let me tell you, it felt so good to finally tackle it.
I started by pulling out everything—all the makeup, skincare, and beauty products I had stuffed into drawers and bins over the past year. As I laid it all out, I realized just how much I had accumulated. There were expired items that needed to go, products I hadn’t touched in months, and a few forgotten favorites that I was excited to rediscover. Decluttering was the first step, and it felt so satisfying to say goodbye to items that no longer served me.
After the declutter, I cleaned out the storage spaces where my cosmetics live. Wiping down drawers and organizers gave everything a fresh, clean start. Then came the fun part: putting it all back in a way that feels functional and streamlined. I categorized my products—everyday essentials, special occasion items, and skincare staples—so everything is easy to find. Now, my morning routine feels minimalized, quicker and more enjoyable because I’m not digging through piles of stuff to find what I need.
Balancing the Rest of the Reset List
Even though I got this task done, I know there’s still more to do. Two big tasks remain on my New Year Reset list: organizing the basement and tackling paperwork. Paperwork feels especially important because of upcoming taxes, and even though my plan was to finish it in January, I’ve decided to give myself some grace and move it to February. Life has been full lately, and at times it’s felt overwhelming. I want this reset journey to feel good—not forced—so I’m letting myself take my time.
The basement is a bigger project, but it’s one I know I need to finish during the colder months. My goal is to have everything organized before March so I can fully enjoy the spring and exciting events like our big move and my sister’s baby’s birth. I don’t want to carry the stress of unfinished tasks into these joyful moments, so I’m staying focused on getting it done little by little.
Reflection:
Organizing my cosmetics reminded me of why I started this reset in the first place. It’s not just about getting things done—it’s about creating space in my life for ease, joy, and clarity. The small wins, like cleaning up my beauty products, add up to a bigger sense of accomplishment. If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed with your to-do list, know that it’s okay to take things at your own pace. Life isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress and finding balance. Everything will come together in its own time.
Waves of love, always.
