part 3 of my new year reset
Refreshing My Balcony and Soaking Up the Winter Sun
January isn’t typically the time you think of spending time outdoors, but when the sun decided to make a rare appearance, I knew I had to make the most of it. My balcony was in desperate need of attention—cluttered with old pots, dusty furniture, and, most importantly, an herb garden that had seen better days. With an upcoming move on the horizon, I decided to tackle the task head-on. It was time to clean, declutter, and get this space back in shape.
My first focus was the herb garden. Over the months, it had become full of dry, brittle plants and empty pots. Some herbs had withered away long ago, and others were simply overgrown and untidy. I started by clearing out the dry remains, cutting back anything salvageable, and organizing the pots. It felt good to finally get this task off my to-do list, especially knowing it would be one less thing to worry about during the move. By the time I was done, the herb garden looked neat and ready for its next chapter.
Once the garden was decluttered, I turned my attention to the rest of the balcony. I swept away dust and debris, wiped down the furniture, and made sure everything was clean and organized. The fresh, open space felt instantly lighter and more inviting.
And then, just as I finished, the sun came out in full force. I couldn’t resist taking a break. I made myself a warm cup of coffee, grabbed a chair, and sat in the golden sunlight. It was one of those rare winter moments you just have to soak in fully—the warmth on my face, the crisp air, and the satisfaction of completing a task I’d been putting off for too long. For a few minutes, I simply sat there, savoring the peace and quiet. These are the moments that remind me how important it is to pause and appreciate the little things.
Reflection:
Decluttering my herb garden and refreshing my balcony wasn’t just about ticking something off my list—it was about creating a calm, enjoyable space and taking time to recharge. If you’ve been avoiding an outdoor project, winter sunshine might be just the motivation you need. And when you’re done, don’t forget to take a moment to pause, breathe, and enjoy the simple joys of the season. These little breaks are what carry us through until spring.
