part 1 of my new year reset
Organizing My Closet for a Fresh Start
As 2025 rolled in, I felt an urge to reset my surroundings, starting with my closet. It had become a cluttered mess over the past year—clothes spilling off hangers, shoes piled up in no particular order, and random items shoved into corners. Every time I opened it, I felt a wave of stress. So, I decided that this would be my first task in my New Year Reset series.
I began by pulling everything out. Yes, every single item. The room quickly turned into chaos, but I knew it was a necessary part of the process. With everything laid out in front of me, I could see just how much I had accumulated. Some items I hadn't worn in years, and others were still tagged from impulse purchases.
The next step was sorting through it all. Instead of donating, I sell my clothes via Sellpy, and it’s a process that makes me incredibly happy. Knowing that there are people out there who want to buy these items at a lower price and appreciate their uniqueness fills me with joy. I love the idea that these special pieces will find a new home, where they can make someone else feel happy and confident. It’s a win-win—my closet gets a refresh, and others get to enjoy pieces they love.
As I worked through the sorting, I thought about my goal for 2025: to minimize my wardrobe and only buy high-quality items that I truly need. No more random shopping or impulse buys. I want a wardrobe that’s intentional, filled with pieces I love and wear often.
Once I had curated my collection to only the things I truly value, it was time to organize. I invested in matching hangers and a few storage bins to make everything look cohesive. I arranged my clothes by type—jackets, dresses, tops—and then by color. It felt so satisfying to see everything in its place.
When I was done, I stood back and admired my work. My closet wasn’t just clean; it felt like a fresh start. Every time I walk into it now, I feel a sense of calm and control that sets the tone for my day. This process wasn’t just about tidying up; it was about creating a space that reflects how I want to approach 2025—organized, intentional, and light.
Reflection:
If your closet has been a source of stress, I highly recommend taking a day to reset it. The process can be therapeutic, and the result will give you a sense of peace every time you get dressed. Selling items you no longer need, instead of simply discarding them, can also add an extra layer of satisfaction, knowing your things will bring joy to someone else. A clean space truly makes for a clearer mind.
